Ending Learning Under Trees – Building Kyani Nyanza Primary School
For 22 years, Kyani Nyanza Primary School in rural Uganda has lacked classrooms and toilets, forcing 920 students and 7 teachers to learn under trees and use bushes as toilets. This exposes children to harsh weather, disrupts learning, spreads intestinal worms, and increases dropout—especially among girls during monthly periods. The headteacher receives parents under a tree. Educational outcomes remain the lowest, health risks rise, and dignity is lost. Imagine starting every school day with fear of rain, illness, or shame.
Project Purpose
This project aims to restore dignity, enhance health, and expand opportunities by constructing permanent classrooms and essential facilities at Kyani School.
Goals
Improve student retention and learning outcomes by 65% by building 18 permanent, weatherproof classrooms.
Reduce hygiene-related illnesses by 80% by installing 22 gender-sensitive latrines and a borehole water point.
Increase digital literacy by 70% through a solar-powered tech lab offering ICT access and basic computer education.
Key Deliverables
Construct 18 classrooms: 4 for nursery and 14 for primary, fully furnished for conducive learning.
Construct 22 VIP toilets: 6 for the nursery, 9 for girls, 5 for boys, and 2 for teachers, each equipped with handwashing stations.
A solar-powered tech lab to equip students with basic ICT skills and jobless youth to access digital jobs.
A research and reading library to promote literacy, curiosity, and independent learning.
A borehole water point to reduce disease and provide clean, safe water to the school and community.
An administration block for school leadership to manage operations with dignity and professionalism.
Support We Need
We invite donors, fundraisers, and volunteers to help bring this vision to life. Your support—whether in the form of funds, building materials, or volunteer time—will help construct a classroom, a toilet, a locker, or a student desk. Volunteers with skills in masonry, carpentry, painting, roofing, plumbing, fundraising, and grant writing are needed. Every gift builds a future where children no longer learn under trees but in dignity and safety.
